Variant Menu: Preferences > Building > Construction Type

The external walls are designated 1 to 4 and numbered consecutively clockwise.

Define the construction type of your building:

  1. Enter the orientation of Wall 1. The other walls are automatically displayed.

  2. Specify the construction type of the external walls:

    Construction Type Description
    Light Wood post-and-beam structure
    Medium Brick building
Heavy Concrete composition (increasing heat capacity)
  3. Specify the insulation standard of the external walls:

    Insulation Standard Description
Uninsulated Without any insulation (garden house)
    Standard Standard 2010 insulation
High Doubling of all insulation layers

Depending on the construction type and insulation standard chosen, a corresponding heat transfer coefficient (U-value, according to DIN V 18599 / 2007) is determined and used for further calculation. The higher the U-value, the higher the transmission losses of the building, contributing to a portion of the heat requirement. The table below provides an overview of the used U-values:

Used U-Values, Dependent on Construction Type and Insulation

Construction Type Design Type Insulation U Value [W/K]

  • Enter the types of windows: single/double/triple glazing. The frame proportion is calculated at 10% for all windows. Windows differ in total transmissivity of the glazing. It is assumed that no shading is present.
  • Specify the furniture mass to simulate additional building heat capacity, e.g., heavy furniture. The specific heat capacity is calculated and displayed.
